Project 5

  1. One paragraph proposal:
    • Choose a context where connected devices could significantly improve the user experience. Define the target audience and the specific user needs this system will address. How will all the devices improve and inform the user experience?
  2. User journey map:
    • Create a flowchart detailing how users interact with each device in the system and how data flows between these devices. Indicate decision points, triggers, and feedback loops essential to maintaining a smooth user experience.

For my project I wanted to choose something that is close to home: I used to compete in a combat sport called Tae Kwon Do. While I trained other martial arts TKD was the one thing I competed in and I was able to compete around the world from the US to Mexico to even getting to train in Japan for some tournaments: a common training solution my coaches found for the competition team was VOD (video on download) reviewing our sparring matches or tournament matches. We would analyze our kicks, how we threw them, the speed, how the body rotates, our head movement, etc… This process was grueling and we analyzed every frame and compared it to how other professional fighters would throw there kicks to improve ours. My project aims todo the same thing: utilizing chips inside the gear (shin guards, crotch guards, point sparring chest plates, helmet, and forearms), we could calculate the angle of a kick or punch thrown correlating to your body, the speed, and we can compare it to other fighters that are statistically better to help improve our kicks or punches. The target audience would be anyone that does a combat sport, not just Tae Kwon Do, the secondary audience would be coaches, and the third audience would be a parent that wants to buy something for there kid that wants to take competition seriously. This project will help the user experience as instead of analyzing, you can get instant feedback after a batch of information of your kicks/punches and immediately apply them in the training session.
