- What is vibe coding?
Vibe coding is development style that utilizes AI to code what the user describes said app/website to be.
- What did you create with Cursor?
I wanted to create a very unorthodox gallery website that is interactive and adapts to the artwork that is chosen to be featured.
- What was your design process?
I first prompted Cursor to make me a full unorthodox website utilizing images as a base for color: that is an interactive website where the gallery photos affect the color scheme of said website.
Its initial out put was really disappointing: it looked like a 90’s colored Zillow and completely lacked the unorthodox composition i desired. I refined further and further spending most time on the background as it failed to replicate the irregular patterns and glitches the base photos I used to feed the AI. The whole “development” journey was me trouble shooting with the AI as it failed to update the style sheet during changes or failed to get a wanted result.
- How did Cursor accelerate your design process?
It created an amazing base that someone could start on: in an instant I had multiple pages, multiple gallery photos that are clickable, and you can stroll down to the description of the gallery photos and head into a page of contact information and addresses.
- How did Cursor slow down your design process?
If you want something that is custom tailored and is very specific or unorthodox, finalizing a design in Cursor is not the way. Due to how AI is it generates a very generic sort of art gallery website. It fails to think of a unique and unorthodox style. Trying to change that is like wrestling with a wall that will not budge.
- Insert a narrated demo video of your app.
- What would you do differently if you had more time?
Create a more clear base that the AI model can start on, giving my a desired composition at the start and custom photos that it can directly use for the background will help get something that is desired rather than settled for.
